Kankakee Credit Union, Bradley, Ill., has teamed up with the Kankakee County Sheriff's Department to offer an important safety tool-fingerprinting children as part of the department's Community Services program. After the children were fingerprinted, a kit, including the fingerprints, was given to the parents, grandparents, or guardians. Over 150 children were fingerprinted, ranging from babies to young teenagers. To keep the children entertained, the Sheriff's Department offered several types of give-away's for the children including a small squeezable pig and temporary tattoos. Alabama Credit Union, Tuscaloosa, has helped finance distribution of Child I.D. Kits to local schools. The National Child I.D. Kit program, co-sponsored by the American Football Coaches Association, America's Credit Unions, the F.B.I., and local law enforcement authorities, also has a strong local supporter in The University of Alabama Football Coach Mike Shula. Once parents obtain a kit, it's a simple matter of taking hair samples and fingerprints for each child, and placing a current photo in the envelope. In the unfortunate event of a child's disappearance, the envelope provides immediate help to law enforcement authorities in their efforts to locate the child. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has recently presented a check to the United Way of Central Georgia for $19,679.38. Employees raised the money by pledging to contribute a designated amount by choosing payroll reduction per pay period, or a one-time-only cash, check, or credit charge donation during Robins Federal's United Way Campaign. The United Way distributes funds received from donations of over 50 local area organizations that help support communities in the Central Georgia area. State Employees' Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C., Network Operations department has hosted its first annual SECU Charity Golf Invitational. The benefit was held at Hedingham Golf Club and raised a total of $8,664.60 for Victory Junction Gang Camp. The camp offers children suffering from chronic or life-threatening illnesses a fun and exciting camping experience. The charity event was attended by 150 players, guests, and volunteers. A team from O'Brien/Atkins & Associates brought home first place honors. In addition to this event, SECU branches and operations departments statewide have held many fundraising events to support Victory Junction. To date nearly $100,000 has been raised from their combined efforts.
