TEMPE, Ariz. – The local chamber and Tempe Schools Credit Union are hoping to provide some relief to nearly 300 businesses here that may be impacted by light-rail construction set to get underway soon. The $154 million credit union, along with the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, will participate in a city-sponsored loan program that will approve lines of credit totaling $20,000 each to prequalified businesses. Those who have businesses along the rail line; are independently owned; and have been open for at least two years are eligible to apply. The owners must agree to keep their accounts with or move them to Tempe Schools CU. In return, they will receive a four-year line of credit set at 1% over prime. The program is set to kick off in November.
