WASHINGTON – The Coalition for Credit Union Charter Options, a banker advised group which supports credit unions being able to change to mutual bank charters, has attacked the American Association of Credit Union Leagues' report on the charter conversion issue. AACUL's 65-page report, released last month, made many different recommendations in different areas for what the credit union industry as well as state and federal regulators and other organizations should do to help make sure credit union members know what's at stake when a credit union converts to a mutual bank. "AACUL wants to empower every small group of dissident members that has an axe to grind, over any issue, and give them access to the rest of the membership. They also want to prohibit raffles, as if door prizes had never been used by credit unions to encourage member participation in the democratic process," the Coalition said.
