Saugus Federal Credit Union, Mass., has awarded scholarships to three recent high school graduates from each of the three schools with student-operated credit union branches. The $1,000 scholarships were awarded based on students' academic and extracurricular achievements with consideration given to students who work at the school's credit union branch. The Saugus Federal Credit Union has student-run offices at Saugus High School, Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School in Wakefield, and Lynn Vocational Technical Institute. Since the program began SFCU has awarded a total of $21,000 to local high graduates. People's Credit Union, Middletown, R.I., member Patrick Wood has been awarded a $500 scholarship by the Rhode Island Credit Union League. Wood, who was sponsored by the credit union was selected based on academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities and the quality and content of an essay that addressed the applicant's intended major field of study and career goals. Cabrillo Credit Union, San Diego, has awarded a $400 scholarship to Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) senior Nour Beylouni. The scholarship was given exclusively to members of SRHS Academy of Business and Finance. This Academy was designed to improve students' working knowledge of the business and finance world and provide hands-on training through internships with local businesses. Westport Federal Credit Union, Mass., has awarded five high school seniors each with $1,000 scholarships. The scholarship is in memory of the late Alfred Lewis, a member of the Board of Directors at WFCU. This year's winner includes Matthew Lariviere, Elizabeth Motta, Kristen Nightingale, Kimberly Tarvis. and Allysa Piche. MobilOil Federal Credit Union, Beaumont, Texas, has awarded two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. Recipients Emily Platt and Dustin Hood were selected based on their academic achievements and community involvement. MidWest Financial Credit Union, Ann Arbor, Mich., has awarded scholarships to local students David Billingsley and Carey-Marie Huff. Each student was presented $1,500. Recipients were selected based on their academic achievements, community and school involvement and financial need.
