State Employees Credit Union, Lansing, Mich., has raised arecord-breaking $29,430 for the Capital Area United Way. Frompledges and donations to special employee events SECU staffersfound creative ways to raise money. In addition the SECU Intranetwas used to offer entertainment and encourage staff participationin various United Way Campaign events. Synergy One Federal CreditUnion, Manassas, Va., has raised $29,030.12 for the AmericanDiabetes Association. This marks the credit union's largestcontribution to any organization. Synergy One FCU has beenrecognized as the top fundraising team in Prince William County,Virginia. Some 51 staffers, members, friends and familyparticipated in events ranging from the "SOFCU All Stars" Walk Teamand "Dress Down for Diabetes" Days to branch sales of stars andstuffed bears, and bake sales. Insight Financial Credit Union,Orlando, Fla., has donated 70 computers and monitors to help enrichthe technology center at Bonneville Elementary School. Teachers andschool administrators were eager to help the Insight Financialstaff members unload the two trucks that were filled with computerequipment. Schools Financial Credit Union, Sacramento, Calif.,staffers have recently volunteered at the 11th Annual Run to Feedthe Hungry water station. Schools Financial CU served as a Bronzesponsor of the event, and volunteers hand delivered water to morethan 15,000 runners and walkers. Dollars raised by this event godirectly to the Sacramento Food Bank. Gulf Winds Federal CreditUnion, Pensacola, Fla., has treated 225 McArthur Elementary Schoolsecond through fifth grade students to a special showing of "ThePolar Express". In order to participate in this special field trip,students were required to read library books and read books ontheir independent reading level and score at least 85% accuracy ona computerized test, earning points toward a preset goal. GulfWinds FCU, a partner with McArthur Elementary School since 2000,provided the funding for student admission. Pen Air Federal CreditUnion, Pensacola, Fla., has donated $5,000 to the USO. The fundswill be used to replace needed equipment that was destroyed byHurricane Ivan, which left much of Naval Air Station indisrepair.
