COLUMBIA, S.C. – CUMS, Inc., the South Carolina Credit Union League's Service Corp., is now known as Palmetto Cooperative Services Inc. The League said the name change was part of its updating of the CUMS' image. SCUL Senior VP Mark Curran said originally they intended just to change the service organization's logo, "but we soon realized that we needed to go further than that." The name Palmetto Cooperative Services and the new palmetto tree logo pay tribute to the League's home state "and emphasize the cooperative nature of our business," said Curran. Palmetto Cooperative Services was founded in 1969. It was the first league service corporation to provide check processing services for affiliated CUs. In 2002, it produced more than 20 million individual member statements and processed more than 80 million check items and 1.2 million returns. Its annual revenues exceeded $6.5 million in 2002.
