With the holidays fast approaching, the Society for Human Resource Management is helping to set the tone with the release of its annual Holiday Schedules survey. This year, SHRM found 38 percent of those who responded will be offering as many as five floating holidays to employees in 2014.

These holidays, defined as "a holiday that the organization has not scheduled," come in addition to other more common holidays. Overall, 78 percent of organizations give workers six to 10 paid holidays. Part-time staffers receive up to five paid holidays at 51 percent of the responding companies.

The most commonly observed by employers in 2014 will be Dec. 25 (aka Christmas Day), observed by 95 percent of employers.
