PricewaterhouseCoopers has added its name to the growing number of players creating "apps" to help employers understand and use private health insurance exchanges.

PWC is partnering with one national and three regional business groups to provide the tools companies will need to navigate the private exchanges. The nonprofit research and information organization is dubbed The Private Exchange Evaluation Collaborative. Joining PWC in the creation of the collaborative: Employers Health Coalition, the Midwest Business Group on Health, the Northeast Business Group on Health and the Pacific Business Group on Health.

The collaborative will serve as a guide for understanding how the private exchanges work. Among the resources: technology and business process capabilities, financial models, products, administrative requirements and employee support services, the group said in a statement.
