The New York Life Foundation, the charitable arm of The New York Life Insurance Company (NY Life), announced a $238,000 grant to be given to Outward Bound and used in support of Heroic Journey, a program tailored to grieving teens.
Outward Bound, since its inception and founding in Britain in 1941 has sought to provide participants with active learning expeditions. The Heroic Journey program focuses on grieving teens and through peer support, strives to help them hone their coping skills.
“The investment from the New York Life Foundation will help more grieving teens, many of whom are unable to afford the program, to get grief and peer support as they participate in a life-changing journey of self discovery. Heroic Journey enables grieving teens to develop a supportive peer network as they express themselves in ways they couldn’t before the program,” said Geoff Scott, Outward Bound’s group programs director.
