Western & Southern Financial Group, Cincinnati, has named Jonathan D. Niemeyer senior vice president and general counsel. He will be responsible for all aspects of the law department, corporate compliance and government relations for Western & Southern and its subsidiaries and affiliates.

Niemeyer succeeds Donald J. Wuebbling , who retired from Western & Southern on April 1 after 35 years of service.

“Jon has performed exceedingly well in his prior duties with us and worked in close collaboration with Don Wuebbling before his retirement to assume these responsibilities,” said John F. Barrett, chairman, president and CEO for Western & Southern. “With a proven track record of success, Jon will be able to successfully guide the company through a very complex legal system.”

Joining the company in 2001 as associate counsel in the law department, Niemeyer was subsequently promoted to counsel in 2003 and to vice president and associate general counsel in 2004. Prior to joining Western & Southern, he held positions with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP and Graydon, Head & Ritchey LLP where he concentrated on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and securities.

Niemeyer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Kentucky and a juris doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law. He was admitted to the Order of the Coif honor society and served on the editorial board of the Kentucky Law Journal. A member of the Cincinnati and Kentucky Bar Associations, he is licensed to practice law in both Ohio and Kentucky. Additionally, Niemeyer is a member of the Association of Life Insurance Counsel and is active in his church and various charitable organizations.
