An insurer is providing technical assistance for administrators of nonprofit retirement plans trying to comply with new federal regulations.

MetLife Resources, a unit of MetLife Inc., New York, says it has posted a copy of a 403(b) specimen plan document on the Web.

Clients and others can use the sample document to comply with requirements that are set to take effect for 403(b) plans Jan. 1, 2009, according to MetLife Resources.

The government will be requiring schools, charities and other 403(b) plan sponsors to maintain a written plan document for their 403(b) plans, MetLife resources says.

Affected employers must adopt a written 403(b) plan by Dec. 31.
