A managed care company is putting more effort into making sure that members with serious health problems get and take the right drugs.

Aetna Inc., Hartford, has hired 5 pharmacists with advanced training to work with those members and their doctors, the company says.

Aetna may reach out to members if they have chronic heart failure and do not have or are not consistently filling a prescription for an ACE-inhibitor; have coronary artery disease and are not consistently filling antihypertensive or lipid-lowering medications; or have been prescribed drugs for erectile dysfunction along with drugs which can lead to harmful interactions with the erectile dysfunction drugs.
