The head of a large health insurer says he is turning day-to-day management duties over to another executive.

Larry Glasscock, 58, the chairman, president and chief executive officer of WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, says he will be keeping the chairman title but passing the president and CEO titles on to Angela Braly, 45.

Glasscock has been president of WellPoint since 1999 and chairman since November 2005. Enrollment has grown to 34 million, from 6 million, since he became president, and revenue has increased to $60 billion, from $6 billion.

Glasscock says needs to give up the post of president for family reasons.

Braly has been executive vice president of WellPoint since 2005. She previously was president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, a company WellPoint acquired in 2001.

Braly has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Texas Tech University and a law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
