Bluegrass State regulators are advising consumers in the state to be suspicious about marketers who call or write them with offers for unusually cheap health coverage.
At least 7 Kentucky residents and about 300 U.S. consumers have received solicitations for fake health insurance from marketers operating under the name “National Trade Business Alliance of America,” according to the Kentucky Office of Insurance.
NTBAA and another related organization, Professional Business Consultants, purport to offer affordable group health coverage from well-known carriers, but they have no affiliation with the carriers or licenses to sell insurance in Kentucky, Kentucky officials say.
The consumers being solicited are asked to pay a one-time application fee of $136 and a monthly premium that ranges from $134 for an individual to $207 for a family, officials say.
