The National Committee for Quality Assurance is trying to shame administrators of preferred provider organization plans and the new personal health account-based plans to publish health care quality data.[@@]

The NCQA, Washington, today published a batch of quality data for 289 health plans.

Most of the participating plans are health maintenance organizations, according to NCQA President Margaret O’Kane.

“The new mantra for health care purchasers needs to be, ‘show us your data,’” O’Kane says in a statement. “why trust your family’s health to an organization that operates behind closed doors?”

The NCQA also is recommending that individual providers make more of an effort to participate in quality measurement and “pay for performance” programs.
