A Canadian insurer hopes to increase its appeal to U.S. customers by rebranding its U.S. life insurance products.[@@]

Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto, has started selling U.S. life products under the John Hancock brand name.

The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.), the Manulife unit that has been issuing Manulife insurance products in the United States, has changed its name to John Hancock Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.).

Manulife’s new John Hancock Life unit also has introduced a single set of routine underwriting requirements along with a set of preferred and super preferred underwriting criteria.

Manulife acquired John Hancock Financial Services Inc. in April 2004.
