LONDON (HedgeWorld.com)–Researchers at FTSE Group, the independent publisher of the FTSE indexes, are examining whether to offer hedge fund indexes.

Sandra Steel, a spokeswoman for FTSE, said that FTSE executives are early in the research process and have not made any decisions. Ms. Steel could provide no additional information.

FTSE’s current lineup of indexes focuses mainly on securities indexes. Other firms offering hedge fund indexes includes: Credit Suisse First Boston Tremont* Index LLC, New York, Morgan Stanley Capital International, Geneva, and Standard & Poor’s, New York.

Investable indexes are particularly hot right now, with all three of those firms and others offering their own means to create hedge fund index funds.

*Tremont Capital Management Inc., Rye, N.Y., is a strategic partner of and a minority investor in HedgeWorld.
