NU Online News Service, May 22, 1:02 p.m. – Sybase Inc., Dublin, Calif., says it has licensed its New Era of Networks HIPAA Studio system to Adaptis Inc., Seattle.

Sybase is a large database software company, and Adaptis is a company that sells computer services and business services to health insurance companies.

The Sybase system that Adaptis is licensing includes a data communications server and HIPAA Accelerator, software that can automatically convert electronic health claims filed in many formats into the new, standard federal format.

The standards officially take effect in October, although insurers and other affected companies can buy themselves extra time by applying for one-year extensions.
