NU Online News Service, Oct. 22, 10:21 a.m. – Minnesota has a number of bills regarding long-term care insurance pending until 2002.

One is a bill that would increase the state’s long-term care insurance income tax credit from $100 to $250, says Dominica Sposeto, lobbyist for the Minnesota Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

“It was not enacted last year but is still alive for the 2002 session,” he says.

Other Minnesota bills carried over to next year, according to Health Insurance Association of America, include HB1708, which would require health maintenance organizations to participate in a long-term care employee health insurance assistance program as a condition of obtaining a certificate of authority; HB1998, which would expand the long-term care tax credit from 25% to 50% of the premiums paid; and SB1070, which proposes a health insurance subsidy for LTC industry workers.

SB1070 requires the Board of Aging to promote the provision of employer-sponsored LTC insurance and encourage private and public sector employers to make LTC insurance available to employees, according to HIAA.
