STAMFORD, CT-The storied locally based law firm Cummings & Lockwood LLC has signed a 55,643-sf long-term lease at Reckson Associates Realty Corp’s Six Landmark Square building here.

The deal will involve the relocation of Cummings & Lockwood’s corporate headquarters, which is currently housed in approximately 70,000 sf of space at 4 Stamford Plaza (107 Elm St.) in Stamford. According to Jonathan Mills, chairman and managing director of Cummings & Lockwood, the law firm hopes to take over its new space by the end of January 2006.

Mills says the firm began studying a possible move when, after more than 25 years at 4 Stamford Plaza, the practice “felt we needed better designed and more efficient space.” He also relates that several years ago the firm dropped several practice groups that it felt were not part of its core practice, including healthcare, intellectual property and high tech, thus reducing its office space requirements.

While the firm for a short time had considered locations outside the city borders, the law firm’s office search was centered for the most part on properties in the City of Stamford, Mills says.

The law firm has 140 employees and approximately 55 attorneys in the city. Cummings & Lockwood also maintains offices in Greenwich at 2 Greenwich Plaza (12,000 sf) and in West Hartford at 29 South Main St., as well as in Naples and Bonita Springs, FL. Companywide the firm employs approximately 250 workers, including about 90 attorneys.

Albert B. Ashforth, Inc.’s Ed Tonnessen, executive vice president, Jeffrey H. Gage, senior vice president, and George R. Walker, senior vice president, represented Cummings & Lockwood in the transaction.

Commenting on the long-term lease deal at the nine-story, 140,000-sf Six Landmark Square building, Recskon executive vice president and chief operating officer Salvatore Campofranco says, “We are extremely pleased that we were able to attract one of Connecticut’s oldest and most prestigious law firms to Six Landmark Square. Having Cummings & Lockwood join the Landmark Square distinguished tenant roster is validation of the property’s quality.”
