WASHINGTON, DC-One NoMa Station edges toward realization now that asset manager the Bristol Group has tapped Tishman Construction Corp. to head up the redevelopment effort. As general contractor, Tishman will oversee the $32 million project that will transform a former technology facility into a class A office building offering 408,000 sf of space. The Bristol Group experienced a false start on the project last year, but all systems are go this time around; already, Tishman has wrapped up preconstruction activity. With the address of 131 M St., NE, One NoMa Station sits in the heart of NoMa, an underutilized area “north of Massachusetts Ave.” that had long been home to empty parcels and vacant industrial structures before developers like The Bristol Group began to realize the neighborhood’s potential.

The new Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms headquarters sits nearby, and a handful of multifamily developers have made plans to build in the area, as well. The existing building was originally developed in 1939 and was once home to the Woodies department store warehouse. Tishman has a history with the facility, too. “Tishman did the original conversion of this building from a warehouse to a technology facility and as a result we know every inch of this structure, and are in an ideal position to make recommendations and execute the construction,” notes company senior vice president James M. Scarpace.

In addition to its top-of-the line office offerings One NoMa Station will offer the added benefit of a site across from the recently completed New York Ave. Metro station; a highly coveted feature for new developments in the District. The property will also offer extensive structural security, as well as a secure communication structure; also highly coveted office building features, particularly given the post-9/11 environment.
