08/04/04: Economists finally agree that we are in the middle of a robust expansion with estimates of GDP growth ranging from 2% to 5%. As a result, job growth is expected to average 200,000 new jobs per month for the next six months. The point now is not whether or not these jobs are better paying than the jobs that have disappeared since March 2001, but rather that they are appearing at all.  This could be very good news for President Bush who stands to be the first president since Herbert Hoover to suffer a net loss in jobs during his term of office (of course we still have a few months before this can be determined). But an odd thought arises. While most sectors struggle their way out of the recession, there is one area where unemployment is never mentioned. Has anyone ever heard of an unemployed economist?
