FREDERICK COUNTY, VA-After a kindly tug-of-war between two counties, building materials developer Barber & Ross Co. has decided to relocate from its current home in Leesburg to a new development in Frederick County.

The company–which produces windows, doors and millwork products–will build a new 250,000-sf office and manufacturing facility in the Ft. Collier Industrial Park, next to the Clarke-Fauquier-Frederick-Winchester Regional Jail. Barber & Ross expects to dole out $13 million to realize the relocation and expansion endeavor.

By forsaking its company-owned locale in Loudoun County’s Leesburg, Barber & Ross gives up a headquarters that sits on nine acres of land, for one that occupies a 25-acre parcel. But size was not the only decision in choosing Frederick County over options in Leesburg and West Virginia. “Virginia’s business-friendly environment, the availability of suitable sites, the proximity to our customers and workforce availability were all factors in selecting to expand in Frederick County,” Barber & Ross president Jim Guiliano explains. “We are very appreciative of the efforts of the Town of Leesburg to retain Barber & Ross; but in the end, we felt that Frederick County was more suited to our long-range needs.”

Development of the new headquarters is on target to start next month.
