ULI, Campaign Aid Suburb's Redevelopment

RIVERDALE, IL-A group from the Urban Land Institute and Campaign for Sensible Growth is spending its second day here Thursday in an attempt to help this south suburb’s redevelopment plan, which includes affordable housing in its Pacesetter neighborhood. Former Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago executive vice president Charles Hill is chairman of the ULI’s technical assistance panel, which is spending two days here.

Unlike previous technical assistance panels in other suburbs, such as nearby Park Forest, the group will continue to work with Riverdale officials for one year. US Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. also has volunteered to help the village land federal money.

The ULI and Campaign for Sensible Growth panels include experts in finance, law, planning, real estate and transportation. Suggestions are based on the panel’s visits to communities, along with interviews with local residents and officials.

Panels have been held in recent years in Hanover Park, Highland Park and Richmond.
