RFSP Issued for Affordable Seniors Housing Complex

ABERDEEN, NJ-This Central New Jersey township has issued a request for submission of proposals for an affordable senior housing complex on a 13.86-acre site formerly occupied by South River Metals. What local officials have in mind is a project of 65 rental or condo units for income-eligible seniors, with preference given to local residents.

“Finding affordable, quality housing close to home has become elusive for low- and moderate-income senior residents of Aberdeen and other parts of Monmouth County,” explains Mayor David Sobel. “This proposed complex would give qualified residents priority for all units in a new community designed specifically for seniors.”

To be eligible for the privately developed community, residents would have to meet financial guidelines set by the Council on Affordable Housing of the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs. And while it will be up to the selected developer to decide whether the units will be condos or rentals, the prices will be set in accordance with guidelines set up by the state agency.

RFP packages are available through township manager Mark Cohen. The deadline for submissions has been set for October 1, 2003.
