$94M Community Center Nears Completion

SAN DIEGO, CA-The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is nearing completion, as Roel Construction Co. is currently wrapping up the final phase of the $94-million project developed by the Salvation Army.

Having recently completed the 110,000-sf community center, which opened its doors in June, Roel is now working on a 37,000-sf performing arts center, 14,000-sf education center and 800-sf co-generation plant. The performing arts center will boast a 600-seat theater with an orchestra pit, as well as a dance studio, band and orchestra room and vocal and instrumental practice rooms, while the education center will contain a library, classrooms and computer lab. The co-generation plant, which will help power the project, will be capable of producing 560 KW. This final phase of the project, which is worth $13-million, is slated for completion in October.

The project, which is named after McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc and his widow Joan, is rising at 6845 University Ave. One of the largest facilities of its kind in the nation, the center has been designed to serve the communities of East San Diego, La Mesa and Lemon Grove.
