PLACENTIA, CA-It is full steam ahead for Placentia’s proposed $400-million railway project, as the state’s Transportation Commission has recently handed over $5.2 million to Placentia officials. The money will be used to build railroad underpasses at Melrose Street and Placentia Avenue.

The project, which is slated to commence in April, calls for a five-mile-long, 35-foot-deep trench. The trains, which currently run on above-ground tracks, will operate along the bottom of the completed trench. Designed to ease the city’s traffic flow, these railroad underpasses will allow cars to pass freely on the roadways above.

In the months ahead, the Transportation Commission is expected to give Placentia a total of $28 million to aid with the railway track-lowering project. The money, which was promised in June, is just one source of funding for the $400-million undertaking. City leaders have also asked the Federal Government for assistance.
