GEORGE, WA-Much of this Central Washington city is about to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Colliers International and Auctions Incorporated are auctioning 20 parcels here totaling 300. The auction will take place Saturday, September 29, 2001 at 2pm at the Moses Lake Convention Center in Moses Lake.

The city, located off Interstate 90 at exit 149, is perhaps best known, however, for its proximity to the Gorge Amphitheater overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, where concertgoers of all ages flock to see major throughout the summer months.

Properties included in the auction are the Martha Inn Cafe and Lounge; George’s Country Place which includes a Union 76 gas station, convenience store and fast food franchise (2000 gross revenue was $2.39 million); a 10 acre mobile home park; 51 acres commercial; 137 acres residential; 13 acres light industrial and 72 acres of irrigated farmland.

Founder Charlie Brown developed the city of George, Washington, in the early 1950′s. Convinced that there should be a town named “George” in the state of Washington, Brown planned and mapped out this small, colonial themed city with the help of his wife, Edith, and city planner M.R. Wolfe of the University of Washington.

“The City of George is very excited about these property offerings,” said Pete Smith, George’s public works director. “Since 1998 we’ve invested over $4 million in the city’s infrastructure. George is a fertile environment, poised for development and we welcome the growth.”
