Design Firm Creates High-Tech Facility

DETROIT-Planning and design firm HarleyEllis has completed the planning of a new research facility and distance learning center at OakRidge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. The 52,000-sf facility, proposed for construction by the state of Tennessee,will house the Joint Institute for Computational Sciences and the Oak RidgeCenter for Advanced Studies.

The laboratory is a multi-program science and technology facility managedfor the US Department of Energy by UT-Battelle LLC. The building is planned for a 1.7-acre parcel on the complex’s west campus.

The building will include a raised-floor computer laboratory, large lecture hall, high-end distance learning center, four computer incubator suites andfour team suites, offices and support rooms. The facility also incorporates high-speed, large bandwith computer, network cabling and connectivity equipment.

Construction is expected to begin next spring.
