First Union Loans Tribe $5.3 Mil for 120 Shelter Units

ROCK HILL, SC-The money will finance 30 apartments, 65 single-family houses and 25 smaller units on the Catawba Indian Reservation here, 10 miles south of Downtown Charlotte.

ROCK HILL, SC-First Union Corp. of Charlotte is loaning the Catawba Indian Reservation $5.3 million to develop 120 shelter units comprising 30 apartments, 65 single-family houses and 25 smaller residences. The reservation is 10 miles south of Downtown Charlotte. Iswa Development Corp. is doing the project.

Iswa plans three more developments encompassing office, retail and recreation under the Federal Government’s Title VI program, according to Carson Blue, the tribe’s secretary/treasurer. The First National Bank of Anchorage, AK made the first Title VI loan of $1.7 million earlier this year to finance eight housing units in Mountain Village for the Asacarsarmiut tribe.
