LINCOLN PARK-Lincoln Park’s City Council recently made a deal with Joseph Daly, owner ofSimeon Services Inc. of Wyandotte, to redevelop a large section of it’sdowntown into condominium and retail projects, following a trend inSoutheast Michigan to create new mixed-use, residential based downtownareas.

The council signed the agreement after dropping The Surnow Co. of WestBloomfield Township. A newly elected council had some philosophicaldifferences with the former company about how to develop the downtown area, says William Hatley, community improvement director for the city.Surnow had created more big box developments, and the new council is lookingto create more of a traditional main street, Hatley said.

He said Simeon will redevelop 15 acres, consisting of about 15 old shops andstructures structures and a parking lot.Hatley said the council has allotted about $4 million to acquire the land atthe intersection of M-85 and M-39, and has so far negotiated purchases forabout one-third of the property.
