Two Monroe Companies Site-Searching Separately to Build a Total 500,000 SF of Industrial Valued at $16 Mil

MONROE, NC-Hughes Supply Corp. and Scott Technologies Inc. are looking in their own backyard for sites on which to build additional facilities. Hughes is scouting the Monroe area to build a $5-million, 300,000-sf distribution center that would consolidate operations near Charlotte. The supply company already has four facilities in Monroe.

The local Hughes operation is a subsidiary of Hughes Supply Corp., which operates in more than 30 states. The company sells 200,000 construction-related items.

Scott Technologies, a fire and aviation safety equipment maker, is scouting the region for a new and larger headquarters site for its Monroe plant, which now employs more than 400. Scott plans to spend up to $11 million for a complex that would include a building of at least 200,000 sf.

The Monroe City Council is considering incentive packages that would encourage both companies to stay in the area.
