There is currently no immediate permanent replacement for Maryland Insurance Commissioner Ralph Tyler, who leaves his post Friday to become chief counsel to the federal Food and Drug Administration, an official said.

If there is no permanent replacement named once Mr. Tyler leaves, there will be an interim appointment until a decision is made, said Shawn Adamec, press secretary for Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.
