A Rochester, New York man falsely reported his car stolen before reporting to federal prison to serve a sentence for a previous firearms conviction. Khaleef Ahmad Reed intended to collect a $9,300 insurance settlement to pay off his car loan.

According to the New York State Insurance Department, Reed hid the car inside a relative’s garage before telling police that it had been stolen while parked on the street. Reed then filed an insurance claim and gave the only key to the car to his insurance company.
