Miami's 70-year-old free law library has suffered deep cuts in budget and staff over the last two years, but the county's proposed withdrawal of $330,000 could be a fiscal death blow. The library, which serves about 2,000 attorneys and 900 pro se litigants a month, "is the only legal resource to many pro se litigants and indigent citizens," says Damian Thomas of Wasserman & Thomas in Miami and a member of the library's board. The board is seeking sponsorship from law firms and is offering $100 memberships.

Miami’s 70-year-old free law library may shut its doors next year if the Miami-Dade County Commission approves a recommendation from its budget department that would cut a third of the library’s funding.
