McQuaid Bedford & Van Zandt is a small firm doing big-firm things. This year the 22-attorney firm worked with Squire Sanders on a deal worth about $70 million. Then there was last fall's merger with HighTech Law. "Within two weeks, we had an agreement," says partner Arman Javid, who says his firm is a "total throwback" to the way law firms were before the era of the mobile practice: "People didn't used to take their practice to another firm. It's an outdated notion that the partners stick together."
