A man who intended to have sex with a 13-year-old girl can be convicted for attempting to commit the crime even though the girl doesn't exist, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled unanimously. Court records show that the "child" turned out to be a 47-year-old Dallas police detective working undercover who posed as a 13-year-old girl in e-mail correspondence with the defendant.
