U.S. prosecutors told a federal judge Wednesday morning that they have a substantial amount of discovery to turn over to a defense lawyer for accused Russian agent Maria Butina, but are reluctant to do so out of fear he will share it on cable news.

Government lawyer Thomas Saunders told U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan of the District of Columbia in a brief status conference hearing that they have a substantial amount of discovery—about four to six terabytes worth, or nearly 1.5 million documents—that they are ready to turn over to Butina’s attorney, Robert Driscoll of McGlinchey Stafford.
