One of the most notable characteristics of the Spanish financial system is its heterogeneous mix: the large banks at one end, medium-sized banks and large savings banks in the middle and (up to now) numerous groups of savings banks. These groups all compete on the Spanish market under unequal conditions – at least from a legal perspective.
