National firm Beachcroft is facing a £3m negligence claim over advice it gave a former client.The claim, which was filed in the High Court earlier this year (7 May), alleges the firm failed to properly advise the claimant - former client Alexander Langsam - on a professional negligence claim he had lodged against accountants and tax advisers Hacker Young, which led to an unfavourable settlement package.Langsam alleges he settled the case against Hacker Young for £1m in 2006, following the advice of Beachcroft. He had launched the claim in 2002 when he alleged that the accountancy firm failed to advise him correctly on tax relief issues regarding his non-domiciled status in the UK. He alleges Hacker Young owed him £4.29m and, after only receiving the £1m settlement, has launched a claim against Beachcroft for £3.29m plus interest, which could push the claim to over £4m.Davies Arnold Cooper partner David Bear is advising Langsam while Reynolds Porter Chamberlain professional indemnity partner Katherine Rees is advising Beachcroft.
