One of the key issues firms that have a client relationship management (CRM) system face is that complete, undisciplined freedom to amend, modify or delete data could be deemed to be inconsistent with many of the principles of The 1998 Data Protection Act (DPA). Equally, there are many ways in which CRM systems can assist your firm to ensure that data protection policies are followed.

One word of warning – a CRM system in itself cannot provide total protection and it is essential that all firms have clear and well-communicated data protection policies. CRM systems can make the implementation of those policies straightforward and easy to manage, but bear in mind any personal data held anywhere in the firm is covered by data protection legislation – not just that which is held in the CRM system.
