The Italian Bar Association is under pressure to overhaul its archaic ethical rules after a row erupted between law firms and the local Bar over published deal research that breached the strict code of lawyers’ conduct.

The argument centres on Italian magazine TopLegal, which in January produced a list of 360 of 2004′s biggest deals, naming the firms, lawyers, values and clients involved.
