On 26 May, following an extensive consultation, the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, announced the Government’s long-awaited decision on the future of the QC system: an interim system.
The only certainty was that the Lord Chancellor would never again be responsible for assessing and appointing QCs, or similar. But everything else appears to be still under review.
