The battle of the bars is not confined to the shores of Britain. Accession to the European Union (EU) has raised questions among lawyers in each of the new member states as to whether the restrictive practices still in place can be justified. And they are all aware that competition commissioner Mario Monti’s keen eye has already fallen on their respective bars, and the questions of regulation, pricing and advertising restrictions.
