Elite Italian firm Gianni Origoni Grippo & Partners has pledged to remain independent after formally ending its alliance with London giant Linklaters.
The announcement, made internally last month (12 March), brings to an end the five-year alliance from 2 April, with the two leading European firms admitting that the goal of an eventual merger was “unlikely”. In a joint statement the firms added: “We will continue to work together on joint matters and for mutual clients as clients wish.”

Eventually the firms intend to open their own offices. Gianni Origoni currently has lawyers based in Linklaters’ London HQ and its New York branch, while Linklaters has three partners in Gianni Origoni’s Italian bases.
