Freshfields steps up hunt for US merger partner

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is to this year press ahead with its long-held ambition of securing a heavyweight New York merger after drawing up a short-list of suitors.

The magic circle firm in November presented partners with an initial list of firms, which included elite New York practices Sullivan & Cromwell, Cravath Swaine & Moore, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Davis Polk & Wardwell.
