The $2.3 billion Virginia Credit Union said more than 1,000 ofits 219,700 members made a deposit using their smartphones inJuly.

That's the most in a month since the Richmond, Va., credit unionbegan offering mobile remote deposit capture in April, the creditunion said.

VACU now has 1,500 members signed up to use the service, whichwas deployed using technology from VSoft Corp. of Atlanta, the credit union said.

The RDC service supports iPhones and Android devices and VACU isthe first local credit union or community bank in Virginia'scapital city to offer it, the credit union said.

“VACU moved quickly to offer this service because of the rapidadoption of mobile banking by its members,” said Frank Macrina,vice president for e-Services. He said VACU has been an earlyadopter of electronic services and has been offering online bankingand bill pay since 1997.
