Consumer credit reporting will be the topic of the latest field hearing scheduled by the Consumer Financial ProtectionBureau for next week in Detroit, the agency said.

CFPB Director Richard Cordray and a panel of experts will present the Mondayevent at 11 a.m. in the Detroit Institute ofArts at 5200 Woodward Ave.

Credit reporting agencies, which have not been subject toprevious federal regulation, are included among non-banks the CFPBwill supervise as a result of the Dodd-Frank Act.

According to a proposed rule issued by CFPB in February, theconsumer reporting market includes the largest consumer reportingagencies selling comprehensive consumer reports, consumer reportresellers, and specialty consumer reporting agencies.

The bureau has set a July 21 target date for a final rule thatwill define which reporting agencies qualify as “largerparticipants” and how they will be regulated.
