As nonprofits continue to struggle, the $810 million AdvantisCredit Union in Milwaukie, Ore., has figured out a way to make areal difference in the communities it serves, with GROW: TheAdvantis Community Fund.

According to Wendy Edwards, vice president of marketing/humanresources at Advantis, GROW aims to help revitalize communities byproviding access to financial resources to help tackle a wide rangeof local needs and challenges.

With an initial fund of $50,000 and grants up to $10,000 each,the Advantis awards for small and moderate-sized non-profits werecreated to seed local projects that offer the most potential forlong term benefits.

Applications for an Advantis Grow Grant will be accepted throughOct. 31. A selection committee will identify the projects with themost promise of long term benefits, and the public will be invitedto vote on the finalists via the suburban Portland credit union'swebsite and Facebook page beginningNov. 4.
