A pair of swooping swans sent staffers scurrying and put thedisaster recovery support system to the test recently at a Michigancredit union data center.

The big birds crashed into a power line on May 24 at the datacenter that supports core processing customers of CU*Answers inGrand Rapids, the CUSO said.

The brief power interruption knocked out the cooling capacity ofthe air handlers but backup generators kicked in, staffers didtheir jobs and life quickly returned to normal, CU*Answerssaid.

“Neither a single credit union client nor a credit union memberwas aware of the incident,” the CUSO said in a statement. “Theswans were seen later that day swimming on a neighboring pond, alsoappearing to have recovered nicely.”

CU*Answers said it provides core processing, online and mobilebanking and other self-service products to approximately 200 creditunions.
